The final matched up Brazil against Spain, in what was predicted to be quite a tight affair. Spain, who were yet to concede a goal in the tournament and had won every game on their way to the final, were going to have to be at their best defensively to stop a Brazil side that boasted two of the tournaments biggest talents, Ricardo Alves and the player of the tournament Jeferson Goncalves.

The first half had a good pace to the game with both Alves and Goncalves firing in early shots that tested an excellent Alvaro Gonzalez in the Spanish goal. As the half wore on it showed just why Spain had kept clean sheets all the way through the tournament. Brilliant defending from the whole Spanish team frustrated the Brazilian side and chances were at a premium and when they did come the crowd rose in appreciation.

With five minutes of the half remaining the deadlock was broken by Ricardo Alves. Bursting through a few challenges, he turned back in on the last Spanish defender before firing low into the back of the net. As the half time whistle approached Gonzalez pulled off to great saves from Goncalves to keep the score at half time 1-0.

The second half was just as exciting as the first and again it was Brazil doing the majority of the attacking. In this half, however, both teams reached the three foul limit and both had chances from the penalty spot.

Tournaments top scorer Antonio Martin failed to convert his chance as did Severino Silva for Brazil. With ten minutes left Goncalves burst through again and this time he managed to drill the ball past a diving Gonzalez to take the score to 2-0.

Spain forced one final chance but Fabio saved well and at the final whistle Brazil were crowned champions following a 2-0 victory.

The first game of the last day saw the clash for third place in the tournament between England and China. The game got off to a good start for England with Jonathan Gribbin and David Clarke both having chances to give them an early lead, but the Lei Niu saved well on both occasions. The England defence was well marshalled by Will Norman and they limited China to only speculative long range efforts which didn’t trouble Skyres in goal.

It was one of these speculative efforts that finally brought about the games opening goal. Ya Feng Wang skipped past one challenge before firing in along range shot which struck the post. Unfortunately for England and Skyres, the ball came back off the post and struck Skyres on the back of the head before trickling over the line, to give China the 1-0 lead.

The last ten minutes of the half was all England but they were unable to find the back of the net, as a couple of shots went wide and Lei Niu saved twice from Gribbin. Skyres at the other end also looked to redeem himself as he pulled off two magnificent saves before the half time whistle.

Just five minutes into the second half Gribbin burst into the box and was cynically brought down to win England a penalty. Skipper Clarke stepped up but blasted wide to the despair of the large crowd.

England were made to rue this miss as they were unable to fashion another clear cut chance to equalise before the final whistle despite the incredible efforts of the England forwards. Skyres made one last brilliant save and the score finished 1-0 China.

The result means that China came third place in the tournament, with England in fourth.
